And Then There Was Wind and Rain

It’s Monday and a holiday in France. We decided to stick close to home today after our very busy day yesterday. We spent the morning touring around Honfleur but the weather had drastically changed overnight so we’ve encountered seriously significant winds along the harbour and some rainfall. We are grateful we brought toques and gloves to add to our rain gear. The town was quiet this morning as we strolled through the Jardin du Public and the Jardin du  Personnalites. The latter garden was a relatively new garden developed to honour both children and the people who have made this area and city important. David realized that each of the sections which surrounded a sculptured bust of the personality was surrounded by topiary and flowers sculpted in the shape of a boat. The garden is right near the water so care had to be taken to plan for strong plantings that could uphold the significant weather changes. It’s still a bit of a work in progress, to my mind.

Art is also a very big attraction in Honfleur. Many galleries and art retailers showcase their wares in the buildings located in old Honfleur. We toured Saint Catherine's Eglise tonight. It's a church that was destroyed by an invasion in the 15th century and was rebuilt slowly, mostly by boat builders so the interior of the church is now in the shape of a boat. It's quite beautiful and so lovingly crafted from wood. Sometimes it is known by its other name as Sainte Catherine des Bois.

Pour mes petites enfants. We have seen several carousels near the harbours of towns we have been visiting. They are very nice ones and often have a trampoline or two next to them. We also saw a tourist train which looks like a little train but is actually a small truck with cars attached to it. It was quite cute but I forgot to take a picture for you. Did you know that in France when you go to the marche to buy a jar of mayonnaise, almost all brands of mayonnaise includes a lot of Dijon mustard? So it’s actually sold as a combined product. So if you don't like mustard, you probably wouldn't want the mayonnaise here, either. There are a lot of chocolate shops here to tempt Grampy and Grammy assures you the frites are tres excellente.

If you zoom in can you see the art piece in the doorway all in gold?
